It’s no surprise that 1 out of 4 people eat some type of fast food every day. After a long day of work, dining out is way easier than cooking dinner for you and your family. While there’s nothing wrong with dining out, it can be very costly. To help make dining out more affordable, check out a few hacks and suggestions below!

  1. Plan for lunch instead of dinner. Lunch specials are typically cheaper and may even come with a side of soup or salad.
  2. If you can’t do lunch, go out earlier for dinner. Beat the 8pm dinner crowd and arrive at 6. Avoid a long wait while simultaneously snagging some happy hour deals. Half-priced appetizers? Score!
  3. Split your meal with a friend or ask for a takeout box. Most dine-in restaurants serve large portions! Box up some food so you can prevent overeating and have an extra meal for later!
  4. Or order to-go and dine at home instead. You won’t have to pay for tip and won’t be tempted to order some last-minute dessert.
  5. Save money and order water. Avoid sodas, teas, or high-priced alcoholic beverages that you would normally get at a grocery store for a fraction of the price.
  6. If you’re meeting a friend, schedule a coffee date. Instead of passing up on dinner because it’s pricey, spend time catching up with a friend over a cup of coffee or tea.
  7. Sign up for coupons and promotions. See if your favorite spots have email subscriptions available or are on mobile apps. If so, chances are they’ll send you sweet deals and discounts!
  8. BYOB! If you must have wine or beer with your meal, look for restaurants that allow you to bring your own bottle. They may charge a corkage fee, but it may still be cheaper than ordering off their menu.
